China Warns US Against Escalating Trade War, Vows to Defend Its Interests

BEIJING, April 8 (Alliance News): Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jianyin stated on Tuesday that the United States’ actions show a lack of seriousness in trade talks and warned that China will continue to fight back against any escalation in the trade war.

Lin emphasized that for meaningful negotiations to take place, the US must adopt an attitude based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit.

He further stated that if the US persists with its tariff war, disregarding the interests of both nations and the international community, China will fight it to the end.

The comments came in response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement that if China does not lift the 34% retaliatory tariff, the US would impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods.

Lin responded firmly, stating that while China does not seek quarrels, it is not afraid of threats or blackmail. He reiterated that pressure and intimidation are not appropriate ways to engage with China, and that China will take necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
