Israeli Authors Demand End to Gaza War in Joint Letter

JERUSALEM, Apr 16 (Alliance News): Nearly 350 Israeli authors, including prominent literary figures, have signed a joint letter urging an immediate end to the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, which has now stretched beyond a year and a half.

According to international media reports, including The Times of Israel and the German news agency DPA, the letter includes signatures from celebrated Israeli writers such as David Grossman, Joshua Sobol, and Zeruya Shalev.

The signatories expressed grave concern over the toll the conflict has taken on both Israeli soldiers and hostages, as well as the massive humanitarian suffering faced by civilians in Gaza.

“The actions being committed in the Gaza Strip and occupied territories are not in our name,” the authors wrote. “Yet they are being documented and reported as though we all bear responsibility.”

The letter further calls for an end to the military operation against Hamas, the return of Israeli hostages, and the establishment of an international agreement on Gaza’s future. The writers also criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of treating the war as a “personal matter.”

Their appeal reflects a growing chorus of voices within Israel calling for a political and humanitarian resolution to the conflict.
