Lebanese President Vows to Bring All Weapons Under State Control

DOHA, Apr 16 (Alliance News): Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has announced his government’s intention to disarm the resistance group Hezbollah and bring all weapons in the country under state control.

Speaking during his visit to Qatar, President Aoun said it is unacceptable for any group to possess arms outside the authority of the Lebanese state.

He emphasized that Hezbollah has no interest in engaging in a new war and expressed hope that 2025 would mark the year when all weapons in Lebanon are under government control.

The president clarified that Hezbollah fighters would not be merged into the national army as a separate unit but are welcome to join the military through standard procedures and training programs.

Aoun also stressed that the disarmament process would be handled through dialogue with Hezbollah, aiming to avoid internal conflict. “We want to disarm Hezbollah, but we do not want a civil war in Lebanon,” he stated.
