Khor Fakkan, June 17 (Alliance News): The United Arab Emirates coast guard evacuated 24 crew members from the oil tanker ADALYNN on Tuesday after a maritime collision in the Gulf of Oman, near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
The incident occurred approximately 22 nautical miles east of Khor Fakkan, the UAE National Guard confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The crew was safely transported to Khor Fakkan port using search and rescue boats.
British maritime security firm Ambrey reported the incident but said it was not related to regional security tensions. However, shipping sources told Reuters that the collision involved at least two other vessels.
The maritime disruption comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, with both nations exchanging attacks for a fifth consecutive day following Israeli airstrikes launched Friday. Naval sources report a recent surge in electronic interference affecting ship navigation systems throughout the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical chokepoint for global energy trade, with roughly 20 million barrels of oil and fuels transiting through it daily, according to data from Vortexa.
There has been no immediate comment from the UAE foreign ministry or Khor Fakkan port officials regarding the collision
