NEW YORK, April 11 (Alliance News): United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the ongoing US-Iran talks in Islamabad, expressing optimism that the dialogue could help reduce tensions and end hostilities.
In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Guterres said Pakistan has provided an important diplomatic opportunity for the United States and Iran to engage in meaningful negotiations.
He urged both sides to use this opportunity wisely and engage in good faith to reach a lasting and comprehensive agreement that could lead to de-escalation and prevent further conflict.
The UN chief emphasized that there is no alternative to a peaceful resolution of disputes under international law and the UN Charter, stressing the importance of dialogue over confrontation.
Guterres also noted that UN envoys are already present in the region to support diplomatic efforts and facilitate progress toward peace.
The remarks come as Pakistan hosts high-level negotiations between Washington and Tehran following a fragile ceasefire, with global attention focused on the outcome of the talks.
