BEIRUT, Sep 06 (Alliance News): The Israeli military said Sunday it was carrying out strikes in southern Lebanon after Hezbollah launched two drones towards Israeli soldiers, while warning residents of the town of Arab Salim to evacuate ahead of the attacks.
The Israeli military said the drones were launched towards Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers operating in what it described as the security zone in southern Lebanon.
No Israeli soldiers were reported wounded in the incident, according to the military.
“This constitutes a blatant violation by the Hezbollah terrorist organisation. In response, the IDF is now striking in southern Lebanon,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
In a separate warning issued in Arabic on Telegram, the Israeli military urged residents of Arab Salim to leave the area ahead of what it described as imminent attacks.
“You are situated near a facility belonging to the terrorist organisation Hezbollah, against which the IDF will be operating,” it said.
The latest escalation comes amid continued tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, despite a reduction in violence following diplomatic efforts to contain the wider Middle East conflict.
Lebanon was drawn into the regional war in March after Iran-backed Hezbollah attacked Israel, prompting Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion.
Lebanese authorities have said the Israeli military campaign has killed more than 4,300 people in the country.
Violence has eased since a US-Iran memorandum of understanding on the broader conflict was reached in June, followed later that month by a framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
Israeli forces continue to operate inside a self-declared security zone extending around 10 kilometres (six miles) into Lebanese territory along the border.
Lebanese authorities said Saturday that Israeli strikes killed four people in southern and eastern Lebanon.
