ISLAMABAD, July 20 (Alliance News): Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand will arrive in Pakistan today (Monday) on an official visit at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, marking the first visit by a Canadian foreign minister to Pakistan in nearly two decades.
According to the Foreign Office, Foreign Minister Anand will hold delegation-level talks with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to review the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Canada bilateral relations.
The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, education, people-to-people contacts, and other areas of mutual interest. Both sides will also exchange views on key regional and international developments.
During her visit, the Canadian foreign minister is also scheduled to call on Pakistan’s top leadership.
The Canadian government described the visit as a significant milestone in bilateral relations and part of Canada’s efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.
Pakistan and Canada enjoy cordial relations supported by a vibrant Pakistani diaspora of more than 300,000 people in Canada, while around 20,000 Canadian citizens reside in Pakistan.
According to Canadian government figures, bilateral merchandise trade reached approximately $1.2 billion in 2025, including $499.7 million in Canadian exports to Pakistan and $696 million in imports from Pakistan.
The two countries also held the second round of negotiations on a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) in June 2026, reflecting their shared commitment to expanding economic cooperation.
