Doha, Aug 16 (Alliance News): Qatar has denied reports that it detained Iranian pilots, saying the pilots had violated Qatari airspace earlier this year and failed to respond to attempts by authorities to contact them.
According to Reuters, a spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said in a post on X that search and rescue teams had recovered the remains of one Iranian pilot.
Qatari authorities said they contacted Iran after the remains were found to coordinate arrangements for handing them over to Iranian officials.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Doha had also invited Tehran to review details of the operations carried out in connection with the incident. Iran has not yet responded to the invitation, according to the statement.
Qatar stressed that claims that Iranian pilots were being detained were incorrect. According to the Qatari position, the matter relates to a violation of its airspace and an incident that occurred afterward.
Qatari authorities said the pilots failed to respond to attempts by officials to establish contact after entering Qatari airspace. Search and rescue operations were subsequently launched, during which the remains of one pilot were recovered.
