Taliban Says 1.8 Million Afghan Refugees Expelled from Iran in Past 3 Months

KABUL, July 30 (Alliance News): The Taliban-led government in Afghanistan has reported that approximately 1.8 million Afghan refugees have been forcibly expelled from Iran over the past three months, amid growing concerns over the treatment of displaced Afghans in neighboring countries.

The figures were disclosed by officials of the Afghan Ministry of Refugee Affairs during a press conference detailing the ministry’s annual performance report.

In addition to the expulsions from Iran, the ministry noted that 184,459 Afghan refugees were deported from Pakistan, and 5,134 more from Turkey so far this year.

Ministry representatives stated that despite challenges, Afghan authorities have made efforts to facilitate the return and reintegration of deportees. They also mentioned ongoing dialogue with regional governments to ensure more humane treatment of Afghan refugees abroad.

The Afghan government continues to face mounting pressure from international organizations to address the needs of returnees, many of whom arrive in dire conditions, lacking food, shelter, or employment opportunities.

While the Ministry acknowledged cooperation from Pakistan and Iran in the repatriation process in previous months, the scale and speed of forced deportations—particularly from Iran—have raised concerns over regional refugee management and human rights compliance.
