Belarus Visa Waiver Program Attracts Over 1.15 Million Europeans Amid Rising Regional Tensions

MINSK, Jul 9 (Alliance News): Over 1.15 million Europeans have entered Belarus under the country’s visa waiver program, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko said during a visit to the Belinkasgroup company on Tuesday.

Speaking to staff at the cash management firm, Sergeyenko emphasized Belarus’ commitment to openness, despite neighboring countries reinforcing their borders through military and engineering measures. He noted that nearly half of the visitors using the visa-free regime were from Lithuania.

“Belarus demonstrates its openness to the world, especially to our neighbors,” said Sergeyenko. “However, we clearly see growing militarization along our borders — in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Ukraine — including increased troop deployments, combat exercises, and defense spending.”

He added that in light of these developments, Belarus was also taking necessary steps to enhance its combat readiness and national defense capabilities.

The visa waiver program, introduced under a presidential decree, allows citizens from over 30 countries to enter Belarus without a visa — part of a broader effort by Minsk to improve international engagement and regional tourism.

During his visit, Sergeyenko also toured the Belinkasgroup facility, praising its technological infrastructure and security systems. The company, jointly owned by three major banks, employs more than 3,000 people across Belarus and plays a critical role in cash transportation and security. He highlighted its strong safety record and the presence of both former military personnel and women in key roles.

“This organization is a model of discipline, efficiency, and inclusivity — the only one of its kind in Belarus,” he remarked.
