China to Host 15th Northeast Asia Expo in Changchun from August 27

BEIJING, July 22 (Alliance News): China will host the 15th China-Northeast Asia Expo in Changchun City, Jilin Province, from August 27 to 31, aiming to deepen regional economic ties and foster greater collaboration among Northeast Asian countries, the Ministry of Commerce announced on Tuesday.

Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong highlighted the strategic importance of the expo, noting that countries in the region—China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Mongolia, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea—share geographical proximity, cultural affinity, and economic complementarities. “The expo offers enormous potential for regional economic cooperation,” Yan stated.

In 2024, trade between China and its five Northeast Asian neighbors reached 901.6 billion U.S. dollars, marking a 1.6% increase from the previous year and accounting for nearly 15% of China’s total foreign trade. China continues to be the largest trading partner for all five countries, with South Korea and Japan ranked as its second and third-largest trade partners, respectively.

Two-way investment surpassed 7 billion U.S. dollars this year, with cooperation now extending into advanced sectors such as digital economy, green development, modern services, and high-end manufacturing.

Yang Andi, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, said the expo will attract over 8,000 business representatives from 42 countries and regions, as well as all 27 of China’s provincial-level regions. More than 2,796 exhibition booths have already been confirmed, completing 80% of the event’s preparation.

A significant addition to this year’s event will be the debut of a modern industries pavilion, featuring several Fortune 500 companies. The pavilion will focus on industrial transformation through smart technology, sustainable practices, and innovation-driven ecosystems.

Li Xingqian, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), said the council has facilitated the integration of industrial and supply chains across the region. In the first half of 2025 alone, CCPIT supported over 115 exhibition projects in Northeast Asian countries, involving more than 4,000 Chinese enterprises.

The expo, jointly organized by China’s Ministry of Commerce, CCPIT, and the Jilin provincial government, is marking its 20th anniversary this year. It remains the only comprehensive international expo attended by all six Northeast Asian countries and open to global participants.

“We aim to use the expo as a platform to build consensus, expand cooperation, and promote shared prosperity in Northeast Asia,” Vice Minister Yan said.
