Netherlands Spends €1.3 Billion Each Year to Stop Floods

The Hague,Sep 01 (Alliance News): The Netherlands is investing €1.3 billion annually to protect its low-lying areas from floods. Known for its advanced water management system, the country has built strong dikes, polders, embankments, and one of the world’s biggest sea gates to keep rising waters under control.

Officials say this system has greatly reduced the risk of floods and turned the Netherlands into a global model for climate resilience.

The country is also using climate-friendly bonds to fund long-term projects, including the protection of Rotterdam, one of the world’s busiest ports.
