SHANGHAI, Aug 11 (Alliance News): The 466-year-old Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai has opened to the public for night tours for the first time, offering an immersive blend of classical Chinese garden design with modern multimedia technology.
Debuting on Friday, the evening experience combines dynamic lighting, projection mapping and interactive displays with the Ming Dynasty garden’s intricate pavilions, rockeries and ponds. The nationally protected site, designated in 1982, is celebrated as “the finest garden in southeast China.”
A highlight of the programme is a special exhibition of rarely seen Shanghai-style calligraphy and painting, enhanced by digital effects that animate traditional scenes. The night tour has been over a year in development and is designed to refresh the site’s cultural appeal for both domestic and international audiences.
Alongside the launch, Yuyuan Garden introduced a cultural creative brand offering merchandise such as collectible blind box figurines and ceramic teaware. The site also now provides English-language guided tours.
Located near the Bund in central Shanghai, Yuyuan Garden is a major tourist draw. In 2024, it welcomed a record 2.7 million visitors, nearly a quarter of them from overseas.
