ANKARA, June 12 (Alliance News): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkey will export 48 state-of-the-art Kan fighter jets to Indonesia over the next ten years, marking the country’s largest-ever defense export agreement.
In a statement shared on social media, President Erdogan called the deal a symbol of the deep-rooted friendship between Turkey and Indonesia and a testament to the strength and progress of Turkey’s indigenous defense industry.
He added that Indonesia’s local defense capabilities will also contribute to the co-production of the aircraft.
The Kan aircraft, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries, is a fifth-generation fighter jet featuring advanced radar stealth, body-integrated weapons, and high-performance combat capabilities.
The jet successfully completed its first flight in February last year.
This agreement marks the first international sale of the Kan fighter jet, which is set to replace Turkey’s aging F-16 fleet by 2030.
Turkey began its fighter jet development program in 2010 and formalized production plans in 2016 through an agreement with Turkish Aerospace Industries.
Turkey’s defense modernization strategy has seen major milestones in recent years, including its controversial acquisition of the Russian S-400 missile defense system in 2019.
