TASHKENT, Aug 12 (Alliance News): Uzbekistan is taking practical steps to promote environmental sustainability and develop a green economy, with new public-private sector initiatives driving both ecological protection and economic growth through advanced technologies.
In a significant development, the Association of Leather and Footwear Producers of Uzbekistan, in collaboration with Swiss Grow, has launched a major project to convert leather industry waste into high-quality mineral fertilizers for agriculture.
During recent negotiations, the two sides outlined initial steps for the project, which aims to utilise waste generated during leather processing—previously discarded without economic benefit—to produce environmentally friendly, locally sourced fertilizers.
Aziz Kattayev, Head of the Association’s Press Service, said Swiss Grow’s technology would transform waste into a valuable resource, addressing environmental concerns while supplying the agricultural sector with sustainable fertilizers.
Experts believe the initiative will not only yield economic gains but also enhance Uzbekistan’s standing internationally by demonstrating a commitment to resource efficiency and sustainable development.
