BEIJING, April 8 (Alliance News): China has strongly warned the United States against escalating tariff measures, vowing to take firm countermeasures to safeguard its national interests.
The warning came from a spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday, following the U.S. threat to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports.
Terming the U.S. move as “unilateral bullying,” the spokesperson said that the so-called “reciprocal tariffs” are groundless and unjustified. China firmly opposes such actions and views them as a violation of international trade norms.
The spokesperson emphasized that China’s countermeasures are legitimate, necessary actions aimed at protecting its sovereignty, security, and developmental interests, while also preserving a fair global trade order.
Labeling the U.S. threats as “blackmail,” the spokesperson declared, “China will fight till the end if the U.S. side is bent on going down the wrong path.”
China reiterated its longstanding stance that trade wars have no winners and that protectionism is counterproductive. It urged Washington to abandon its pressure tactics and instead resolve differences through dialogue and mutual respect.
“China calls on the United States to immediately correct its wrongdoings, remove all unilateral tariff measures, and engage in constructive talks to resolve disputes,” the spokesperson concluded.
