BEIJING, March 8 (Alliance News): Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming industries and daily life in China, with the country emerging as a global leader in AI technology and applications.
Li Licheng, speaking at the annual session of China’s National Legislature, said that the value of China’s core AI sectors is expected to exceed 1.2 trillion yuan (around 173.9 billion U.S. dollars) by 2025, highlighting the technology’s role in promoting quality and sustainable economic development.
He noted that the number of AI companies in China surpassed 6,200 last year, with AI being increasingly adopted in factories and everyday life. By the end of 2025, more than 30 percent of manufacturing companies with annual revenues of 20 million yuan or more had integrated AI technologies. Chinese firms have also launched over 300 humanoid robot products.
Li added that Chinese-developed AI models are gaining global traction, with China ranking first worldwide in downloads of open-source AI models last year.
The government’s work report for 2026, presented at the fourth session of China’s 14th National People’s Congress, highlighted AI as a key driver of economic transformation.
Plans include promoting the commercial adoption of AI in key sectors, launching infrastructure for large-scale intelligent computing clusters, and developing satellite internet services to support a new smart economy.
