Tokayev to Fly to China for SCO Summit, Business Talks

ASTANA, Aug 26, Alliance News: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will visit China from August 30 to September 3 at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, the Akorda announced on Tuesday.

The visit will feature high-level talks aimed at strengthening the Kazakhstan-China comprehensive and “eternal” strategic partnership.

Tokayev will also attend the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the “SCO Plus” Meeting in Tianjin on August 31 and September 1.

On September 2, Tokayev is scheduled to address the Kazakhstan-China Business Council and meet leaders of major Chinese companies to explore avenues for trade and investment.

His trip will conclude on September 3 with participation in commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II, held in China as a gesture of regional solidarity.

Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin earlier confirmed that a package of agreements would be signed at the SCO Summit, underscoring the growing importance of multilateral cooperation within the bloc.
