BRICS Condemns Attacks on Iran, Calls for Ceasefire in Gaza at 70th Summit in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Jul 7 (Alliance News): The BRICS nations have strongly condemned the recent attacks on Iran as a violation of international law and the UN Charter, warning of their potential threat to regional peace and stability.

However, the declaration issued at the conclusion of the 70th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro refrained from explicitly naming the United States or Israel, which observers see as a calculated act of diplomatic restraint.

Representatives from ten member countries — including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — attended the summit.

The joint statement specifically addressed the attacks on Iran that occurred after June 13, denouncing them as a breach of international norms.

The BRICS countries also voiced serious concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, demanding an “immediate, complete, and unconditional” ceasefire.

The declaration called for the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and the urgent facilitation of humanitarian aid to Palestinians, while reaffirming support for their fundamental rights.

The summit further highlighted challenges in the global economic environment, particularly the rise in protectionism.

The leaders condemned the increasing imposition of trade tariffs, describing them as a threat to the global economy and the principles of free trade. They called for fairer global trade opportunities, especially for developing nations.
