TEHRAN, April 11 (Alliance News): Iran has set key conditions ahead of planned peace talks with the United States in Islamabad, creating uncertainty just hours before the negotiations.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that frozen Iranian assets must be released and a ceasefire must be fully enforced in Lebanon before talks can begin.
In a post on X, he warned that Iran would not enter negotiations unless these conditions are met.
There has been no immediate response from the White House to these demands.
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance, who is leading the American delegation, expressed hope for a positive outcome but cautioned that any attempt to mislead the United States would not be accepted.
Iran has repeatedly called for access to billions of dollars in assets held abroad, which remain blocked due to US sanctions on its banking and energy sectors.
The developments come amid a fragile ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump after weeks of intense conflict. However, the truce remains uncertain as tensions continue across the region.
Although US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran have paused, Israel continues military operations in Lebanon, stating that its actions against Hezbollah are not part of the ceasefire agreement.
Reports say Israeli strikes continued in southern Lebanon on Friday, causing casualties, including members of Lebanese security forces.
Another major concern is the ongoing disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments. The situation has significantly impacted energy supplies and international trade.
President Trump has also criticized Iran, accusing it of restricting oil flow through the strait and warning against imposing transit fees on ships.
These unresolved issues have raised serious doubts about the success of the Islamabad talks, which are widely seen as a critical step toward achieving regional peace.
