Khamenei Warns US Attack on Iran Would Trigger Regional Conflict

TEHRAN, Feb 1 (Alliance News): Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned on Sunday that any military attack by the United States on Iran would escalate into a wider regional conflict, amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Speaking as the US increased its naval presence in the Middle East, Khamenei dismissed repeated threats by President Donald Trump, saying the Iranian nation would not be intimidated by displays of military power.

“We are not the initiators and do not want to attack any country, but the Iranian nation will strike a strong blow against anyone who attacks and harasses them,” Khamenei said, according to state media. He added that US warships and threats would not frighten Iran or its people.

The warning comes as the United States has deployed an aircraft carrier, several destroyers and other naval assets to the region, while pressing Iran to agree to a nuclear deal and respond to concerns over internal unrest.

Tehran has said it remains open to “fair” negotiations, provided its defensive capabilities are not restricted.

Khamenei also referred to recent nationwide protests as a “sedition” aimed at destabilising the country, claiming they amounted to a coup attempt. While Iranian authorities say more than 3,100 people were killed during the unrest, human rights groups have reported significantly higher figures.

Despite the sharp rhetoric, diplomatic efforts have not been completely ruled out, though both sides continue to signal readiness to defend their interests, raising fears of further escalation in an already volatile region.
