KYIV, March 20 (Alliance News): Ukraine is willing to agree to a partial ceasefire on energy infrastructure if Russia upholds its commitments, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said, following a phone call with US President Donald Trump.
Speaking to reporters in an online briefing, Zelenskiy stated that Kyiv would prepare a list of energy, rail, and port facilities that could be covered under the ceasefire, which is expected to be brokered by Washington.
The remarks come a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Trump and agreed to halt attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Zelenskiy, who described his call with Trump as “substantive and positive,” confirmed that Ukrainian and US officials may meet in Saudi Arabia over the weekend to discuss the deal’s technical aspects. However, he warned that Ukraine would retaliate if Russia violated the agreement.
Amid speculation about US involvement in Ukraine’s energy sector, Zelenskiy clarified that his discussion with Trump focused solely on the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. He added that Ukraine would consider US investment in modernizing the plant if it is returned to Kyiv’s control.
Meanwhile, Zelenskiy reiterated that a full ceasefire is unlikely as long as Ukrainian troops remain in Russia’s western Kursk region, where they launched an incursion last August before being largely pushed back.
He also confirmed the delivery of F-16 fighter jets, though he did not disclose specific numbers or timing.
