US Vice President JD Vance to Visit Greenland Amid Tensions Over Trump’s Territorial Push

WASHINGTON, March 26 (Alliance News): US Vice President JD Vance is set to travel to Greenland on Friday, joining his wife Usha Vance, amid renewed US interest in the autonomous Danish territory.

The visit follows Donald Trump’s recent push for US control over Greenland, citing national security concerns.

Vance, known as Trump’s key foreign policy ally, said he would meet with US Space Force members stationed in Greenland and assess the region’s security situation.

His announcement came shortly after Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen criticized the visit, calling it “unacceptable pressure” on Denmark and Greenland.

Trump, who returned to power in January, has suggested that the US should take control of Greenland and has refused to rule out force. He has also talked about annexing Canada, calling it a potential “51st state”.

Greenland’s outgoing Prime Minister Mute Egede confirmed that US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright would also visit this week.

The US consulate in Nuuk has sponsored Greenland’s national dogsled race, which Usha Vance will attend.

The visits have sparked backlash in Denmark and Greenland, particularly amid ongoing coalition negotiations following Greenland’s March 11 elections.

Greenland, which seeks greater independence from Denmark, is home to massive untapped mineral resources and is strategically positioned in the Arctic, drawing interest from the US, China, and Russia.
