NEW DELHI, April 25 (Alliance News): The Indian central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has reportedly admitted a security failure in the recent deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which left 26 people dead, mostly tourists.
During a closed-door all-party meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representative acknowledged, “If nothing had gone wrong, why would we be sitting here?” Opposition leaders questioned the absence of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police in the area, pointing to a clear lapse in protocol.
Government officials reportedly blamed the Anantnag district administration for opening the restricted Baisaran area to tourists prematurely without informing central agencies. The site’s inaccessibility and the lack of a defined emergency response plan further hampered swift action.
Prominent opposition voices, including Asaduddin Owaisi and General VP Malik, criticized the intelligence and security apparatus. Rahul Gandhi extended support to government action, but the Congress Working Committee (CWC) later passed a resolution blaming Pakistan and demanding an investigation into the security lapse.
The incident sparked further outrage after journalist Rakesh Sharma was allegedly assaulted by BJP workers in Kathua for questioning the party’s accountability.
