Russia Backs Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts in US-Iran Talks, Calls for Continued Dialogue

MOSCOW, June 6 (Alliance News): Russia has expressed support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts in ongoing diplomatic engagements between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that sustained dialogue remains essential for reducing regional tensions and achieving a peaceful resolution.

Speaking in an interview with a Russian newspaper, Sergey Lavrov said Moscow strongly supports the negotiations between Washington and Tehran, particularly diplomatic initiatives in which Pakistan is playing a mediatory role.

Lavrov stressed that any future agreement between Iran and the United States should take into account not only Iran’s interests but also the security and political concerns of neighboring countries to ensure long-term regional stability.

He noted that the United States itself recognizes the seriousness of the current tensions with Iran but appears to be facing challenges in formulating a clear and effective strategy to overcome the crisis.

The Russian foreign minister further argued that a significant share of responsibility for the present situation lies with the United States, citing past policies and decisions that contributed to growing mistrust and instability in the region.

Lavrov also acknowledged the diplomatic roles being played by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt in facilitating dialogue and promoting a peaceful settlement of the dispute.

He said the involvement of multiple regional actors reflects a shared desire to prevent further escalation and encourage constructive engagement.

Emphasizing the importance of diplomacy, Lavrov said the most critical priority at present is ensuring that negotiations continue uninterrupted, as sustained dialogue remains the most effective path toward de-escalation and a mutually acceptable agreement.
