MOSCOW, Sep 09 (Alliance News): Saudi Arabia has warned that continued Houthi attacks against its territory and civilian infrastructure constitute a red line, with Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan vowing that the Kingdom will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests.
Speaking alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a joint press conference in Moscow, Prince Faisal said Saudi Arabia remained committed to defending its sovereignty and territory against what he described as continuing Houthi aggression.
“The Kingdom stands with its sovereign interests and capabilities,” Prince Faisal said, stressing that Saudi Arabia would make every effort to protect its territory from attacks.
He warned that repeated attacks on border infrastructure and homes could open a dangerous “Pandora’s box”, with wider consequences for regional security and stability.
Despite the strong warning, Prince Faisal said diplomatic efforts to reach a peaceful settlement in Yemen remained an option.
He said the path towards a peaceful resolution had been repeatedly disrupted by the Houthi militia’s return to military action rather than addressing the immediate concerns of the Yemeni people.
Lavrov also expressed concern over attacks on civilian infrastructure, warning that such assaults could result in civilian deaths and contribute to wider economic and regional instability.
The Russian foreign minister said Moscow supported Saudi mediation efforts aimed at achieving long-term stability in Yemen and called for the implementation of international agreements concerning other points of tension in the region.
During the meeting, Prince Faisal also highlighted the importance of Saudi-Russian relations and cooperation within the OPEC+ alliance.
He said cooperation between the two countries remained important for maintaining balance in global oil markets and ensuring stable supplies.
The Saudi foreign minister reiterated Riyadh’s support for meaningful political solutions to the conflict in Yemen, pointing to previous opportunities for dialogue that had failed to produce progress because of actions by the warring parties.
Saudi Arabia has continued to advocate a political settlement in Yemen while maintaining that its national security and territorial integrity must be protected against attacks.
