WASHINGTON, Feb 11 (Alliance News): US President Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Hamas, demanding the release of Israeli hostages by noon on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, Trump warned that if the hostages were not freed, he would push for the cancellation of the ceasefire and consider speaking directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He stated that it remains uncertain whether the hostages are alive.
Trump also threatened to halt aid to Jordan and Egypt if they refuse to accept refugees from Gaza. He expressed hope that Jordan would comply with the refugee intake.
Hamas had earlier postponed the release of hostages indefinitely, citing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement.
Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for Hamas’s military wing, had announced that the release process was halted.
The ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel was brokered last month with mediation from Qatar, the United States, and Egypt. It temporarily ended the 15-month-long conflict in Gaza.
