MOSCOW, Feb 10 (Alliance News): US President Donald Trump has revealed that he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending the Ukraine war, marking the first known direct conversation between a US and Russian leader since early 2022, the New York Post reported.
Trump, who has pledged to resolve the conflict but has yet to outline his approach publicly, said last week that his team had “some very good talks.” However, when asked how often he and Putin had spoken, he declined to disclose details. “He [Putin] wants to see people stop dying,” Trump said.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov neither confirmed nor denied the report but acknowledged that multiple communication channels exist. The Kremlin has been cautious about speculations regarding Trump’s team engaging in peace negotiations.
Reports suggest that Trump may meet Putin for discussions, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE considered potential venues. Putin previously set conditions for ending the war, including Ukraine renouncing its NATO ambitions and withdrawing troops from Russian-claimed territories.
Meanwhile, Trump has indicated he may meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky next week. “I hope it’s fast,” he said. “Every day people are dying. This war is so bad in Ukraine. I want to end this damn thing.”
