Zimbabwe crush Bangladesh to record biggest-ever Test victory

HARARE, July 06 (Alliance News): Zimbabwe scripted history by defeating Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs in the one-off Test in Harare, registering the largest victory by runs in the country’s Test cricket history.

Resuming their second innings on 40-1 on the third day, Bangladesh were bowled out for 185, failing to recover after Zimbabwe’s dominant first-innings performance.

Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed for 22, while Mominul Haque also failed to make a significant contribution. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim briefly resisted with a 61-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Shanto scored 30, while Mushfiqur made 34 before both were dismissed, triggering another batting collapse.

Zimbabwe’s pace attack proved too strong, with Blessing Muzarabani leading the charge by claiming 4 wickets for 65 runs. Richard Ngarava picked up three wickets, while Newman Nyamhuri chipped in with two as Bangladesh’s innings folded well short of avoiding defeat.

The emphatic victory not only secured the series for Zimbabwe but also marked the nation’s largest winning margin in Test cricket, highlighting a memorable performance from both its batting and bowling units.
