KUWAIT CITY, Sep 02 (Alliance News): Kuwait came under missile and drone attacks on Wednesday, with the government confirming that air defence systems were activated to intercept incoming threats, although no responsibility for the attacks was immediately assigned.
The Kuwait Army General Staff said the country’s air defence units were actively responding to missiles and drones targeting Kuwaiti territory.
Warning sirens were sounded in several parts of the country, while authorities said explosions heard in different areas were linked to air defence interception operations.
The government urged residents to remain calm and follow safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
The attacks came as tensions between the United States and Iran escalated again following a major exchange of attacks.
The United States has threatened further military action, while Iran condemned a US attack that it said killed five people and wounded dozens of civilians at a wedding.
The US Central Command said its forces carried out a series of strikes on Tuesday against targets linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including air defence positions, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communication facilities.
Iranian media reported attacks on several locations across the country, including areas near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has also warned oil tankers against using the waterway without authorisation.
Iran said it had carried out attacks against US assets in Jordan and Iraq, while Iranian media also reported strikes in Bahrain.
The IRGC claimed that a large number of US forces had been killed in Jordan. However, two US officials told Reuters that initial assessments showed no US casualties.
