Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan Submit Joint Bid to Host 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup

BAKU, July 7 (Alliance News): The football federations of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have officially submitted a joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, according to a statement by the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) to AZERTAC.

FIFA has begun evaluating proposals from various nations, and the joint Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan bid emphasizes the countries’ growing football infrastructure, organizational experience, and increasing international reputation—particularly among Turkic-speaking states.

Highlighting their readiness to host the global youth football tournament, the two federations cited active reforms in football, world-class facilities, and their shared commitment to delivering a high-quality event.

Azerbaijan, in particular, has recently hosted several top-tier football events, including matches of UEFA EURO 2020, the UEFA Europa League final, the UEFA European Under-17 Championship, and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Officials from both FIFA and UEFA have commended Azerbaijan for its efficient hosting of international tournaments, praising its modern stadiums, logistical arrangements, and fan engagement.

AFFA noted that both nations bring a strong football culture and organizational expertise to the table, supported by passionate fan bases and government backing.

The statement emphasized Azerbaijan’s consistent professionalism, hospitality, and deep-rooted love for the sport as part of its pledge to make the 2027 U-20 World Cup a memorable event.

The proposed bid reflects the region’s aspiration to elevate its presence on the global football stage while fostering regional unity and sports diplomacy among Turkic nations.
