HOUSTON, March 13 (Alliance News): The annual iftar dinner in Houston, Texas, marked the largest gathering of its kind in the United States, bringing together over 2,500 attendees at the Bayou City Event Centre.
The Iftar organized in collaboration with the Mayor of Houston and Sister Cities Associations, the event aimed to foster religious harmony and unity.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire, the chief guest, was joined by Congressman Al Green, renowned businessmen Javed Anwar and Tanweer Ahmed, diplomats, and community leaders.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott extended Ramadan greetings in a video message, appreciating the event’s role in strengthening interfaith dialogue.
Coordinator Saeed Sheikh highlighted the iftar dinner’s significance in bridging cultural and religious gaps, while Mayor Whitmire and Congressman Green praised the initiative as a symbol of inclusivity.
Prominent speakers, including Imran Ghazi of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston and Arab community leader Ahmed Yassin, emphasized the importance of unity and mutual respect.
The event, which began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, reinforced Houston’s commitment to religious tolerance and diversity, making it a landmark celebration for American Muslims and the broader community.
