Trump dismisses 2028 presidential bid rumors, reaffirms commitment to two-term limit

WASHINGTON, May 5 (Alliance News): Former U.S. President Donald Trump addressed rumors surrounding his potential bid for the 2028 presidential election, confirming once and for all that he will not seek a third term.

In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, Trump emphasized his respect for the U.S. Constitution’s two-term limit and stated, “I’ll be an eight-year president, I’ll be a two-term president.”

Trump’s comments put an end to months of speculation, especially following remarks where he had hinted at the possibility of staying in office beyond the constitutionally allowed two terms. Despite selling “Trump 2028” merchandise, Trump clarified that he has no intention of pursuing a third term.

He acknowledged receiving requests to consider staying in power, but reaffirmed that the legal framework does not permit a third term. “It’s something that, to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do,” he said, citing the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two terms in office.

Trump mentioned potential successors, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as he shifts focus to the next generation of leadership within the Republican Party.
