Kremlin Says No Deadline for Russia-Ukraine Peace Deal Amid Complex Negotiations

MOSCOW, May 20 (Alliance News): The Kremlin has stated that there is no fixed deadline for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, highlighting the complexity involved in drafting a unified memorandum for a ceasefire and long-term peace agreement.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, in remarks published early Tuesday, emphasized that the process of developing a final peace deal would be time-consuming due to the intricacies involved. He noted that both Moscow and Kyiv will need to formulate and exchange draft proposals before any agreement can be reached.

“There are no deadlines and there cannot be any. It is clear that everyone wants to do this as quickly as possible, but, of course, the devil is in the details,” Peskov was quoted by the RIA state news agency.

He added that the drafting process would involve complex negotiations, with both sides expected to submit versions of the agreement before developing a consolidated document.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts received a boost as former US President Donald Trump held phone calls on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and several European leaders — including those of the EU, France, Italy, Germany, and Finland — in an attempt to accelerate peace talks in the ongoing three-year conflict.

Following the calls, Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to begin immediate ceasefire negotiations. President Putin also affirmed Moscow’s readiness to engage with Ukraine on a possible memorandum for a future peace accord.
