China Slams G7 Over ‘Inappropriate Remarks’ on Taiwan, South China Sea Issues

BEIJING, June 18 (Alliance News): China has strongly criticized the G7 countries for making what it termed “inappropriate remarks” on sensitive China-related issues, including Taiwan, the South China Sea, and trade, during a recent summit.

Speaking at a regular press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiankhong said the G7 countries had once again interfered in China’s internal affairs and violated the basic principles of international relations.

He denounced the group’s narrative on so-called “overcapacity” and “market distortion” in China’s industries as baseless and politically motivated.

“These statements reflect Cold War thinking and ideological prejudice,” said Guo. “We firmly oppose these false claims and have taken serious note of this interference.”

On Taiwan, Guo emphasized that the greatest threat to peace in the Taiwan Strait comes from separatist activities and foreign interference.

“If the G7 genuinely cares about regional peace, it should respect the one-China principle and oppose Taiwan’s secessionist moves,” he said.

The Chinese spokesperson also addressed maritime tensions, asserting that the South China Sea and East China Sea situations are “generally stable” and urged the G7 to stop fanning tensions under the guise of maritime concerns.

“The G7 should support regional countries’ efforts to resolve disputes through dialogue and refrain from using maritime issues as a pretext to provoke conflict,” he stated.

Guo also accused G7 nations of abusing trade protectionism to stifle China’s industrial progress, calling such measures unjustified and harmful to global development.

“China urges the G7 to recognize global development trends, cease interfering in China’s domestic affairs, and resolve disagreements through constructive engagement,” he concluded.
