China Urges US to Uphold One-China Principle Amid Taiwan-IMF Bill

BEIJING, July 3 (Alliance News): China has strongly condemned a recent bill passed by the US House of Representatives that calls on the US government to support Taiwan’s participation in the International Monetary Fund (IMF), reiterating that Taiwan has no right to join international organizations limited to sovereign states.

At a daily press briefing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning reaffirmed China’s firm stance, stating, “Taiwan is an integral part of China, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China.”

Mao stressed that the move by the US House violates the internationally recognized one-China principle and undermines the foundations of China-US diplomatic ties.

“Taiwan has no basis, justification, or right to participate in the United Nations or other international organizations that admit only sovereign states,” she added.

The spokesperson urged Washington to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, and to prevent the Taiwan-related bill from advancing further.

The passage of the bill is the latest in a series of Taiwan-related measures by US lawmakers that have drawn repeated protests from Beijing.
