Doha, Jul 7 (Alliance News): The first round of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Qatar concluded without any breakthrough, as Palestinian officials claimed the Israeli delegation lacked the authority to reach a final agreement.
The impasse comes despite earlier optimism, following positive signals from Hamas regarding a new ceasefire and prisoner exchange proposal brokered by Qatar and the United States.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while calling Hamas’s latest demands “unacceptable,” had nevertheless dispatched a high-level team to Doha for talks. However, Palestinian representatives criticized the delegation’s limited mandate, which hindered progress.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump had stated that Israel had agreed to terms for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and expressed optimism about securing a broader agreement.
Speaking in New Jersey, Trump claimed that “some hostages may come out” soon and hinted at the possibility of a “permanent deal with Netanyahu and Iran.”
Despite these developments, the negotiations in Doha have yet to yield concrete results, raising concerns over the prospects of halting the months-long conflict in Gaza.
