BEIRUT, Jul 8 (Alliance News): Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes across northern, eastern, and southern Lebanon on Monday, escalating regional tensions just weeks after similar offensives in Gaza and Yemen.
The raids, confirmed by both Lebanese sources and Israeli military officials, targeted several areas believed to host Hezbollah-linked infrastructure.
According to Lebanon’s official news agency, three airstrikes were carried out in the mountainous Flawi area near Budai, west of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon. No casualties were immediately reported, but the strikes caused panic among local residents.
Further attacks were reported in northern Lebanon’s Akkar district, particularly in the Kafr Malki area, though details of the damage or casualties remain unclear.
In southern Lebanon, Israeli aircraft hit multiple sites in the Tuffah region, including the area between the villages of Ain Qana, Sarba, and Homin al-Fuqa. Heavy bombardments were also recorded in the Zarariya Valley of Sidon district, as well as the suburbs of Arzi and Burj Rahal in the Tyre district.
Additional strikes were launched on the banks of the Litani River, between the areas of Reddi and Matriya in the Qasimiya region of southern Lebanon.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed the airstrikes, claiming that the operation was aimed at “several Hezbollah military centers, weapons storage and production facilities, and a rocket launch site.”
He added that the air raids were in response to recent rocket fire from Lebanese territory into northern Israel.
The attacks come amid heightened hostilities along Israel’s northern front, where border skirmishes and cross-border fire have increased since the Gaza conflict reignited. Analysts warn that the broadening scope of Israel’s military actions may risk pulling Lebanon deeper into a prolonged regional confrontation.
The Lebanese government has yet to issue an official statement, but civil defense teams have been deployed to affected areas to assess damage and assist residents.
As tensions rise, the international community has expressed concern over the possibility of a full-scale conflict involving Lebanon, where Hezbollah, a powerful Iran-backed group, maintains strong influence and military capability.
