WASHINGTON, Jul 14 (Alliance News): The U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine to help defend against ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks.
Speaking to reporters in Washington, President Trump confirmed the decision, saying, “We will send Patriot defense systems to Ukraine, which they desperately need.”
He added that the systems would be provided under a new agreement in which NATO would cover a portion of the cost of the U.S. weapons being delivered.
While Trump did not disclose the exact number of Patriot systems to be sent, the announcement marks a significant move just two weeks after Washington temporarily suspended certain arms shipments to Kyiv.
The reversal suggests renewed U.S. commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defense, but under a cost-sharing arrangement with NATO allies.
Earlier this year, discussions had emerged regarding Trump’s intention to resume arms supplies to Ukraine, signaling his administration’s evolving stance on the conflict.
The Patriot missile system is a key part of air defense, capable of intercepting incoming missiles and aircraft, and is considered vital for protecting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure from Russian strikes.
