Uzbekistan Launches Ecotourism Complex at Surkhandarya Reservoir

TASHKENT, Aug 26 (Alliance News): Authorities in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region have launched major ecotourism infrastructure projects aimed at promoting sustainable recreation while protecting the natural environment.

A modern ecotourism complex is planned on 15.7 hectares of land near the Southern Surkhan Reservoir in Qumkurgan district.

Valued at 140 billion UZS, the project will introduce eco-friendly facilities including cottages, swimming pools, pedestrian walkways, fishing activities, and landscaped green zones.

Wastewater treatment systems will be installed to ensure compliance with environmental standards.

The complex will also feature parking areas, shops, food outlets, children’s playgrounds, and sports facilities, providing comprehensive amenities for both local and international visitors.

Regional Hokim Ulugbek Qosimov reviewed the project on site and instructed officials to ensure phased implementation of construction and landscaping within the set timeframe.

Commissioned 58 years ago, the Southern Surkhan Reservoir spans 65 square kilometers with a total water capacity of 800 million cubic meters.

Located 408 meters above sea level, it is a key natural asset for the region, now being developed into a hub for eco-friendly tourism.
