Drones Lift Trash Off Everest in Cleanup Drive

KATHMANDU, Aug 26 (Alliance News): Heavy-duty drones helped climbers and guides remove hundreds of kilograms of garbage from Mount Everest this season, easing the burden of porters and reducing environmental hazards.

The project, led by Nepal-based Airlift Technology, used DJI FC 30 drones to airlift 300 kilograms of waste from Camp 1 at 6,065 meters. Authorities hailed the effort as safer, faster, and more cost-effective than traditional cleanup methods.

The drones, also deployed to carry oxygen cylinders, ladders, and ropes across dangerous sections like the Khumbu Icefall, are being described as a “game changer” for both safety and environmental protection. The initiative will expand to Mount Manaslu next month.
