ASTANA, Sept 3 (Alliance News): President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlined key projects aimed at diversifying Kazakhstan’s economy during the 8th meeting of the Kazakhstan–China Business Council in Beijing, underscoring growing cooperation between the two countries in mining, metallurgy, automotive, and green transport sectors.
According to the Akorda press service, Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan is working with leading Chinese companies on strategically important initiatives.
Fujian Hengwang Investment is building a metallurgical plant in the Zhambyl region with an annual capacity of three million tons of steel, while Jiaxin International is developing tungsten ore processing at the Boguty deposit in Almaty region.
He added that China Glass is carrying out a unique glass manufacturing project in Kazakhstan, further boosting industrial output.
In the automotive sector, Almaty will soon see the launch of a multi-brand automobile plant with an annual capacity of 120,000 units, producing vehicles from Chinese manufacturers GWM (Great Wall Motor), Chery, and Changan.
The city will also host a new electric bus factory by BYD, strengthening Kazakhstan’s commitment to clean and sustainable mobility.
“These projects will diversify our national economy and expand Kazakhstan’s portfolio of export-oriented products,” Tokayev said, noting that the listed initiatives represent only the most significant among many ongoing joint ventures.
The president recalled that China has already invested around $27 billion in Kazakhstan, where more than 6,000 enterprises with Chinese capital—including major players such as CNPC, CITIC, SINOPEC, and Huawei—are operating.
The Kazakhstan–China Business Council serves as a vital platform to expand bilateral trade, investment, and industrial partnerships, further enhancing the long-term strategic cooperation between the two neighbors.
