WASHINGTON, July 31 (Alliance News): US President Donald Trump has announced that the Board of Peace has reached what he described as a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, paving the way for the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces and the establishment of a new Palestinian administration.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said the agreement marks a major step toward implementing his 20-point peace plan for Gaza.
According to Trump, the disarmament process will be carried out in phases, with Israeli forces gradually withdrawing from Gaza as each stage is completed.
“Today, the Board of Peace reached a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. This is a monumental step toward lasting peace and security,” Trump said.
He said the agreement would eventually lead to the transfer of Gaza’s administration to a new Palestinian government, which would work closely with the Board of Peace to rebuild the territory and serve the Palestinian people.
Trump added that the agreement would also provide Israel with the security it deserves and ensure that Gaza is never again used as a base for militant attacks.
Under the plan, an International Stabilization Force, working alongside a newly established Palestinian police force, will assume responsibility for maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of Gaza’s residents and neighbouring countries.
The US president described the agreement as a significant milestone in implementing his peace initiative, noting that only a year ago Gaza was engulfed in intense fighting, a severe humanitarian crisis and the captivity of hostages.
“We have achieved historic progress, but much work still remains,” Trump said.
He thanked Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye for their mediation efforts and praised his negotiating team for what he called their tireless work in achieving the breakthrough.
Trump stressed that the threat that emerged from Gaza on October 7 would not be allowed to re-emerge and said the future administration of Gaza would be entrusted to a new Palestinian government committed to serving its people.
He also congratulated all parties involved, saying the agreement represented a breakthrough that many had considered impossible.
Despite Trump’s announcement, it remains unclear whether Hamas and Israel have formally accepted the agreement. Neither side issued an immediate official response.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that negotiations in Cairo between mediating countries and Hamas representatives had made significant progress. However, an Israeli official reportedly described the proposed terms as unsatisfactory for Israel.
Separately, The Times of Israel, citing an informed source, reported that mediators and Hamas negotiators had signed the agreement, although Israeli officials maintained that the proposed disarmament plan did not fully meet Jerusalem’s security demands.
