BANGKOK, Aug. 7 (Alliance News): At least seven people, including the suspected gunman, were killed and 15 others injured in a school shooting in Thailand on Friday, according to Thai police.
Thai national police spokesperson Trairong Phiwphan said the shooting occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, north of Bangkok.
Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, Commander of the Nonthaburi Provincial Police, confirmed the casualties and said the suspected gunman, identified as a student, died by suicide after the attack.
An 18-year-old student told Reuters that he initially mistook the sound of gunfire for firecrackers.
“I didn’t think it was a gun at first. There were many shots: bang, bang, bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again,” the student said.
Images shared by emergency responders showed students evacuating the school while ambulances and medical teams rushed to the scene. One victim was seen on a stretcher receiving emergency treatment.
According to district authorities, Debsirin Nonthaburi School had around 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 academic year.
The incident follows another school shooting in southern Thailand in February, in which a teacher was killed and a student injured after a gunman opened fire at a school in Hat Yai district
