BEIJING, May 16(Alliance News): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday briefed the media on the high-level meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump, stating that both sides reached a series of important consensuses aimed at improving bilateral relations and promoting long-term strategic stability.
According to Wang Yi, President Xi Jinping held open, in-depth, constructive and strategic talks with President Donald Trump on China-US relations and a range of major international issues during the visit.
He said the two leaders positively identified the correct direction for future relations between the world’s two largest economies and agreed to establish what was described as “China-US constructive strategic stability relations” as the new framework for bilateral engagement.
Wang Yi noted that the proposed framework envisions a positive and stable relationship in which cooperation remains fundamental, competition stays balanced and limited, differences are manageable, and peace remains lasting and predictable.
International media outlets described the meeting as historic due to its significance for global diplomacy, economic stability and geopolitical relations.
The Chinese foreign minister said both leaders agreed to maintain close communication through multiple channels, including direct meetings, telephone conversations and exchanges of letters to ensure continued dialogue and mutual understanding.
He further announced that, at the invitation of President Donald Trump, President Xi Jinping would undertake a state visit to the United States during the autumn of this year.
According to Wang Yi, the Taiwan issue remained one of the central topics discussed during the talks, with China reiterating its longstanding and clear position on the matter.
He stated that the Chinese side felt the United States understood Beijing’s concerns regarding Taiwan and recognized the importance of maintaining stability in the region.
Wang Yi claimed that the United States, like much of the international community, neither recognizes nor supports Taiwan’s separation from China.
He emphasized that China remains committed to working with the United States to effectively implement the important consensus reached between the two leaders.
The foreign minister said Beijing was willing to advance bilateral ties with a broader vision and a long-term strategic perspective aimed at establishing what he termed a “China-US constructive strategic partnership of stability.”
According to him, both countries should pursue a balanced and cooperative approach capable of opening a new chapter in major power relations in the modern era.
Wang Yi added that strengthening dialogue, managing differences responsibly and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest could contribute to regional peace, global economic stability and stronger people-to-people ties between China and the United States.
Analysts believe the latest high-level engagement between Beijing and Washington signals efforts by both sides to stabilize relations amid years of strategic competition, trade tensions and disagreements over regional security issues.
Observers also noted that the announcement of President Xi Jinping’s upcoming state visit to the United States could pave the way for broader diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting comes at a time when the international community is closely monitoring relations between China and the United States due to their significant influence on global trade, technology, security and international diplomacy.
