SANTIAGO, Jun 02 (Alliance News): Chilean President Gabriel Boric delivered a powerful national address condemning what he described as “genocide and ethnic cleansing atrocities” committed by the Israeli government against the Palestinian people.
He announced that Chile will advance legislation to ban imports of products made in territories Israel occupies illegally.
President Boric also directed the Chilean Minister of Defense to create a new defense procurement strategy aimed at ending dependence on the Israeli military industry.
This move follows Chile’s decision in October 2023 to recall its ambassador to Israel, citing violations of international humanitarian law and unacceptable Israeli conduct in Gaza.
Earlier this year, on May 28, the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, reinforcing Chile’s critical stance on the ongoing conflict.
