China Reaffirms One-China Principle After Lai Chengde Cancels Latin America Visit

BEIJING, July 30 (Alliance News): China reiterated its firm stance on the one-China principle following reports that Taiwan’s Lai Chengde postponed his planned visit to Latin American countries with so-called “diplomatic relations” after the United States rejected his proposed transit through New York.

Responding to a question during a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiaxin emphasized that the one-China principle remains a cornerstone of international relations and reflects the shared consensus of the global community.

“Upholding the one-China principle is consistent with internationally recognized norms and the aspirations of people across the world,” Guo stated. He said that attempts by the Lai Chengde administration to engage in “separatist” activities through diplomatic provocations are doomed to fail.

“These acts will not alter the firm structure of international support for the one-China policy, nor will they hinder the historical trend of China’s ultimate reunification,” the spokesperson added.

Guo also urged the Latin American nations that maintain diplomatic ties with Taiwan to recognize the reality of China’s sovereignty and make the correct choice without delay.

China regards Taiwan as an inalienable part of its territory and has consistently opposed any form of official contact between Taiwan and foreign governments. Beijing views any such visits or transit stops as violations of the one-China policy and a challenge to its sovereignty.
