ISLAMABAD, July 11 (Alliance News): North Korea on Saturday strongly criticised the recent NATO summit, accusing the United States and its allies of strengthening military alliances and accelerating an arms race that threatens global peace and stability.
According to North Korea’s Foreign Ministry, NATO leaders unfairly portrayed Pyongyang’s defence activities as a security threat while expanding military cooperation and increasing defence spending. The statement, carried by the state-run KCNA news agency, described NATO as an alliance focused on confrontation rather than peace.
The criticism follows the NATO summit held in Turkey, where member states announced more than $50 billion in defence procurement and industrial agreements as European allies pledged to boost military capabilities.
North Korea also rejected international calls for its denuclearisation, arguing that such efforts should instead focus on US allies, including South Korea and Japan, as well as NATO countries participating in nuclear-sharing arrangements.
Pyongyang maintained that it would continue strengthening its military and nuclear capabilities to safeguard its sovereignty and national security. The statement came a day after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered further quantitative and qualitative improvements to the country’s nuclear forces.
