Spain Arrests 10 Pakistan-Origin Suspects in Terrorism Crackdown

BARCELONA, March 10 (Alliance News): Spanish authorities have arrested 10 Pakistan-origin individuals in Barcelona on terrorism-related charges, alleging their links to an organised extremist group that spread violent directives through online messaging platforms.

As part of the same investigation, another suspect was detained in Italy in an overnight operation on March 3.

The arrests were carried out in a joint effort by the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police), the Spanish National Police, and Italian law enforcement, according to an official statement.

This operation follows previous arrests of five individuals in 2022 and 14 in 2023, bringing the total number of detainees in this case to 30.

Officials dismissed any foreign involvement, asserting that the group operated solely within Spain. Reports indicate that the suspected ringleader is a 55-year-old Pakistani national.

Authorities claim the suspects expressed support for terrorism on social media and are facing charges of aiding terrorists, financing extremist activities, and recruiting for terrorism. They were formally presented before the court on March 6.
