Trump Says Ukraine War Could End Soon, Peace Talks Progressing

WASHINGTON, Feb 25 (Alliance News): US President Donald Trump has stated that the war in Ukraine could end within weeks, as negotiations to reach a settlement are making headway.

Speaking at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House, Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to the idea of deploying European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

“Putin has no issue with it,” Trump remarked, adding that he plans to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week or next and is open to visiting Moscow at an appropriate time.

Macron reiterated Europe’s commitment to Ukraine’s security, saying European troops could be included in a peacekeeping mission if necessary.

“Our goal is to establish lasting peace in Ukraine,” he stated, noting that Europe has provided €138 billion in aid to Kyiv. He also stressed that any Ukraine-US mineral agreement must include integrated security assurances.
